Advanced driving and the benefits
Having passed an advanced driving test myself with IAM, the Institute of advanced motorists. I would like to bring to your attention, the benefits of doing such a driving course and direct you to a site offering discounts for diligent drivers.
The test is one of a number of advanced driving tests, and they’re not just for the benefit of Driving Instructors.
There are a number of general areas that advanced driving tests cover and all of them, in one way or another, will enhance your driving experience.
The most obvious, of course, is safety. By enhancing your awareness and road skills, a Direct Line survey has proven that advanced drivers can be up to 75% less likely to cause an accident. This inevitably has an effect on insurance premiums, with the potential for your no claims bonus to increase year-on-year.
Other benefits include more economical driving, both in terms of fuel consumption and servicing costs as you’ll be trained in a driving style that has the least wear and tear on your vehicle’s components.
And, finally, the confidence you gain on the road will give you an appreciation for driving as the enjoyable experience it should be – there really are no losers in going for one of these qualifications!
Have a look at this article that lists some of the advanced courses available, all of which will qualify you for favourable premiums when applying for insurance.

Driving test nerves help
If you think you will be consumed with driving test nerves and anxiety taking over on the day of your driving test, how will you deal with them?
Well from personal experience and feedback from others I’d like to offer a few small bits of advice on helping to combat pre-test nerves on the day.
Bananas, there are a lot of people swear by eating a banana or two pre test helps calm them down and relieves the anxiety they feel to a certain extent.
Green tea, maybe have a cup of tea to help calm those nerves. Maybe even along with your bananas.
Brazil nuts, been told that these are also good nerve calming food.
Dark chocolate, another well know food item that is known to help suppress nerves. Forget the calorie count for a few hours.
Deep breathes, as you probably already know, but don’t always think of actually doing it, deep breathes are great for realising those pent up feeling of anxiety. How many times under pressure have you been told, “take a few deep breathes”?
Don’t think of things as a test, it’s basically just an assessment to confirm you are safe to be on the road, just think you are going for another driving lesson with me and drive the exactly the same way. After all, I wouldn’t be putting you up for test if you were not ready.
Lastly, try all of the above, it may help is some small way.
Good luck and enjoy the freedom of motoring when you pass.
